Blues Guitar Timing Exercises - Tabs & Backing Track
To manage timing in blues guitar it is really important that you know which kind of rhythm figures are used in shuffle blues or any shuffle rhythm. The basis of shuffle is the number 3. So we have quarter notes which is the tempo of the song and the triplets which is one beat divided through 3 or sextoles which is one beat divided through 6 and adaptations from that like the shuffle groove which is the first and the third triplet played or quarter trippets which is the first, the third and the second of 2 triplets played. Practice these exercises with your foot and your body on the quarter note of this blues backing track in the key of Bb.

Blue Bossa - Jazz Guitar Backing Track
This is a recording of my dear guitar buddy Daniel Solimine. He is an expert for jazz guitar strumming and rhythm guitar. So I wanted to share this backing track he did for me some time ago. It's a version of Blue Bossa and it starts with a 8 bar intro and then it goes into the tune. Playing along with only a rhythm guitar is a bit more challenging because you need to have your ears more open to what the rhythm guitar is doing and play along with it. It's normal that the timing is not 100% on the point because the drummer is missing. But the great thing is that you have more space to feel and interact during your soloing. Daniel did a great job now it's up to you to join the jam.
Here you find the original realbook score if you don't remember the chords.

Lydian Mode Tabs & Exercise Backing Track
Here you find some exercises to understand and practice the lydian mode on guitar. The lydian mode in fact is the IV step in the diatonic chord progression and is a major mode. The difference between the normal major scale and the lydian mode is only one note. It's the #4 interval. So the lydian mode contains the following intervals : 1 2 3 #4 5 6 7 . The files are showing the connection out of the chordprogession and also the upper structure triad relations. You can practice this with the attached backing track. This works for any genre but when it comes to jazz you also need to adapt the genre specific figures.

If you want to have a real challenge in your guitar life then this one's for you. These are the tabs of the final battle in the epic guitar duel in the movie " Crossroads " performed by Steve Vai and also Steve Vai. Well the other guy was an actor who imitated Steve Vai. It's an excerpt of Paganini's Caprice No. 5. The version of Steve Vai is called Eugene's Trick Bag and is a big challenge for every aspiring guitar player and the Caprice no. 5 is even harder. I have attached both files for all fans of classical stuff on guitar. Both pieces are very demanding and will keep you busy for a few months or even longer till you will be able to play them fluently. But even if you might never reach the speed needed it is in fact a great technical exercise and will bring your playing on a new technical level - so I recommend this to every intermediate - advanced guitar player who wants to proceed to the next playing level. But I would start with Steve Vai's version since this one is one level easier then the original composition.
If you give a try, let me know in the review how it is going for you.

    Basic Guitar Chords Types
There are 5 types of chord shapes which you can play on the guitar when it comes to basic guitar chords. They are derived from the open string chords which are called E-type, A-type, C-type, G-type and D-type chords. Some called this the C-A-G-E-D System because it is easier to remember this word. But I prefer to call the system E-A-C-D-D chord types taken from the sequence of most common and most used chord types. The system is really simple: you take the basic open string chords from E, A, C, G and D and then you just move those chord shapes to the root note of your choice. It works on major and on minor chords. Only the G-typ chord does not work so well on the minor chord. You can see the examples in the tabs you can download here.
