  1. Hey Sara, I found this on the internet. I was very surprised I could copy and paste it. However, I use this as an example of how to play the pentatonic scales with out knowing all the boxes. (HP don't be mad) Lol. But within this extended run in A you are using all the boxes without knowing them, because you are playing them all. Now in that Miss You run. there is an added blue note on the G string between the E and D notes. It's E D# slide to D all on the G string. The next note is a third played on the D string which is a C note on the 10th fret. Then to the A note root on the D string which on the 7th fret. Then play the G note on the 5th fret. Then what is really cool hammer or slide (still on the D string) to the 5th fret to end with the A root note! I hope that makes sense. You probably already knew all this. However, this has been keeping me going when I'm all locked up at home. I could never explain this stuff before.
  2. This is one thing that has helped me know the fretboard on Sara. However, this is just one thing that I work at. My focus has been on learning phrasing and putting it into practice with some jam tracks. The lesson HP did on the Rolling Stones song Miss You has a run that is right from this extended scale. That proved to me that I have been on the right track.
  3. Hey friend. You better teach me riff 2. for what seems like a life I have never been able to wrap my head around this riff.........lol

Pursuit of Tone is an Ernie Ball series. It's basically a sit down with an artist that uses those guitar strings. This one is Mike Ness from Social Distortion. My old lady has watched this with me. Funny she said afterward, "we should have Mike over for coffee", Lol. It's incredibly insightful. And you can watch it in small doses :) Anyway, any of the videos in this series are all worth watching it's an awesome tool for guitarists that have lots of questions about effects, tone, strings, guitars, amps or what have you. Not that you need it. However, if you want to get to know something about Social D. this video is the place to start without having to listen to a bunch of their songs not knowing much about them.

Andrea, this series, "The Pursuit of Tone" was extremely informative. It's not an interview, but more of a sit down with a guitar player, talking about roots, share their licks and talk about life as a guitar player. There is everyone from Buddy Guy to the guy from The Cult. It's something you can watch while practicing.

  5. I liked this a lot. Is this what you will be teaching us down the road? Cause those 2 really fast licks are killer! They looked to me to be from the F and then the G chords, but runs off the scales. I could be wrong, however, I thought they were very cool nonetheless! I did get my hair cut today. It feels great........the beard stays until I have to report back to work! LOL!
  6. This is slow what about this song HP ?

  7. I like the blues rock theme on the electric. Anything to help me to transition from rhythm to playing lead would be helpful. I have been working out a lot of those concepts in your lessons. However, I need more. I have always played rhythm guitar in bands, never lead. I have played lots of open jams where I was playing rhythm and during the song we were playing was asked to solo and was never ready to do that I would just shake my head no. Now I want to be able to say yes I'm ready....put me in coach!
  8. I appreciate you checking them out! Mike Ness writes some of the best songs. Not hard or complicated but heart felt with his lyrics. I know it's only rock and roll , but I like it!
  9. If you want song suggestions let me know. Reach For the Sky would be a great lesson! Social D. always puts a smile on my face and makes my heart double beat. They are my jam band......I can't play every Led Zeppelin song but I can always jam some Social D!
  10. Hey friends. I watched this last week when it came out and mentioned that those 3 licks reminded me of Social Distortion. And would you believe that I was playing Bad Luck by Social D. and those 3 licks fit perfect in the guitar solo. Thanks again HP for making my day. Back to the guitar now!
  11. I probably met her also!
  12. Nice jam HP. I got a lot of cool ideas from this one!
  13. Really liked your message HP. So I have set myself to learning happy songs to add to my list! Or I should say songs that make me happy!
  14. I'm still watching this one. Learned all the cool concepts. Now spending the time putting them to practice into my playing. I'm excited to see what lessons come next week!
