Here you can learn the magic which is behind the song Midnight Blues by Snowy White.  Somebody recommend this song to me and wanted to know if I can do a tutorial about it so I analyzed this song and wanted to find out why became so popular even though there is no official recording available on YouTube. There are three things which make the magic of this song.  First of all to Form.  It is a simple musical form with the chords E minor C and D but the way they are arranged through the song and the way the arrangement is building up makes the real magic of this song I give more information about this in the video but he'll find the chords displayed. I have skipped the intro.

First Part

Em / C D / Em / Em
Em C / D / Em / C D
Em / Em / Em / C D
Em / Em / Em C / D
Em / Em

Second Part - Repeats itself

C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
C / D / Em / Em
Em C / D / Em / Em

The second signature thing is the sound of the lead guitar. One part of the sound is the sound setting which is probably a vibrolux amp or something similar and the other part is the playing technique as you create this sweet sound which is basically just played with the E minor Pentatonic. I'll show you some tricks and some examples how you can get this sweet sound and how you can have a dynamic expression with his clean sound which has only  reverb as an effect.

The third signature thing is the catching the moment of an emotion into music.   Blues is a music style which has a lot to do with emotion the sadness and loss and if you don't feel the same emotions probably you cannot play blues.  From my personal experience and the experience of other players I know that the best recordings happened in moments where you really feel this moment of sadness and loss or slight depression.  But of course you can also play blues if you don't feel sad but at least you have the experience that you probably lost a dear friend or lost your relation partner or something similar and you can put these emotions into your play.

Listened to it - love the song but it does not have the magic vibe as the other recording... just as I thought. Sometimes one recording can catch a certain magic. But thanks for the add.

Thank you very much for this one.

It is quite impressive: it looks like he is picking the hole song just with his thumb (except strumming).

Yes thats true. Thats part of the nice guitar sound he has. Playing with the thumb has a lot a advantages when it comes to a nice and fat sound but quite a lot disadvantages when if comes to playing fast.

Thanks HP.  Good lesson.  This is probably my second favourite slow blues track ever.      Current favourite is "While  We Cry"   - Kenny Wayne Shepherd.     Anyone else got any suggestions?

I just go to know this track and I love it - i will check out your suggestion.
